St Winefride's Church Holy Cross Church

Prayer Resources

We are particularly blessed with a rich tradition of prayer. This reflects the various spiritualities of the Church, such as the Jesuit, Benedictine & Carmelite traditions to name but a few. The Christian day is divided into different times of prayer which all can share, by praying the offices of the Church. We are also exhorted to develop our private prayer life through contemplation and meditation. There are many forms of contemplative and meditative prayer, these can be in the form of reflection on scripture, a saint's life, lectio divinia , or more familiarly, perhaps, the Mysteries of the Rosary. The Church's year is marked by different forms of prayer-life, such as the Way of the Cross, pilgrimage (e.g. to shrines of Our Lady, during May).

There are many aids to prayer, perhaps the most familiar ones are:

All of these are available at the piety shop at the back of St. Winefride's Church Hall.

Prayer for our Parish

Heavenly Father, send forth your Spirit upon our Parish and help us to grow together in faith, love and harmony, so that we can be a faithful witness to you in the wider community; we ask this through your Son our Lord Jesus Christ, Amen.

Prayer for Reconciliation in our Parish

Jesus I praise you and bless you and give thanks for all the graces and privileges you have bestowed upon your chosen apostle St. Jude… (Make your special request now). Almighty God, who revealed to St. Jude your desire to come to us, share your life with us, by your Spirit, open our hearts so that we may come to know your truth. By keeping your commandments may we know your abiding presence. We make this prayer through Christ our Lord. Amen.
