Feast of the Holy Cross We had a lovely patronal feast in Aberaeron last Sunday – many thanks to all who contributed! Thanks to Canon Michael Smith who is celebrating Mass in Aberaeron and Lampeter this Sunday.

Missio Red Boxes Fr Dermot Byrne would like to thank Welsh Martyrs Church for the welcome and generous response to his appeal last weekend. If you didn’t get a chance to collect a Red Box or Direct Debit form, speak to our Missio rep Paul Drew, or go to www.missio.org.uk. He will visit Aberaeron and Lampeter at a later date.

Kneelers (Aberystwyth) The first half of the kneelers have been replaced – they look and feel great! The second half have been removed and are due to be re-fitted on Thursday.

University Croeso nôl, welcome back to all our students! We look forward to a great year ahead. We congratulate Luke, George and Renata, who this year form the CathSoc Committee. Please pray for the fruits of this year.

Second Collection for Evangelii Gaudium Sunday Formerly called ‘Home Mission Sunday’, we raise funds this weekend for the missionary initiatives of our Bishops Conference. We pray that many more souls will hear a proclamation of the Gospel in our lands, in language they understand and in places they recognise.

Posh and Pre-Loved Fashion Fundraiser 12pm-3pm this Sunday at St Padarn’s School. New and nearly new clothes and accessories at fabulous prices; also a Community Wardrobe where you can swap your own pre-loved item for another. Tea, coffee and biscuits provided throughout. Come along to find some gems!

Mass times this week Please note that from now on the weekday Mass in Lampeter will be on a Tuesday evening (this week it’s at 7.30pm due to a clergy day near Bridgend), and the Mass in Aberaeron will be on a Thursday morning. We begin the campus Mass again this week, and this moves to a Thursday evening at the slightly later time of 6.30pm Confessions and 7pm Mass. Diolch i chi am eich dealltwriaeth – thank you for your understanding.

Safeguarding Team The team meets on Wednesday – if you have queries or concerns you’d like to be discussed, please email Fr Matt. This group is looking after safeguarding or health and safety issues in Lampeter parish, too.

Healing Night The Healing Team invites you to join them for reflection and prayer after Mass this Friday in Welsh Martyrs. There will be some talks from members of the team, some gentle music, and the opportunity (should you wish) to receive prayer ministry and to go to the Sacrament of Reconciliation. The evening will finish by 8.30pm.

Sally Cowell RIP Sally’s funeral service takes place at the Crematorium next Saturday. The 10.30am Mass will be offered as a Requiem Mass for her, to which all are of course welcome.

International Older Persons Day 2024 This day falls on September 30th, and there is a get together from 9am-4pm in the Council Chambers at Penmorfa, Aberaeron – ‘Join us in building an age-friendly Ceredigion’. If you’d like more information or to attend, email Anne Watkins from Lampeter parish on annewatkins2010@hotmail.co.uk.

Parish Meeting (Lampeter) We look forward to meeting after 11am Mass on Sunday 6th October to chat about different aspects of our parish. All welcome, and all ideas too – but please contact Fr Matt before Thursday 3rd October if you would like your topic to be included on the agenda (no new topics will be added on the day).

‘Taste and See’ Would you like to know more about the Catholic faith? All welcome to this nine-part series from October 2nd until Easter, with sessions every three weeks on Wednesday evenings, and activities for children so parents can attend. Participants are asked to register for the series. Please email Fr Matt for more information.

Medjugorje Our Lady has been said to be appearing in Medjugorje since 1981, and many conversions of faith in Jesus have occurred there. This week the Vatican has declared formally that “the Holy Spirit is acting fruitfully for the good of the faithful in the midst of this spiritual phenomenon of Medjugorje. [All] are invited to appreciate and share the pastoral value of this spiritual proposal.” Our Lady’s purported apparitions and messages have not been declared on – but this document can be understood as the Church’s stamp of approval of the place itself.
